newsletter 1 2020
This is the first Newsletter for the Edwardstown Bowling Club for 2020. We hope to make this a regular publication for members and others to enjoy during the pennant season.
Season 2020/21 is all about new beginnings in our newly built Clubrooms. Last season on the green, didn’t bring us the success we were striving for. However, off the green we had a great year raising lots of money for the Club through the various events that were held. Many thanks to all those volunteers for their dedication and commitment to our Club.
We had an Open Day on Sunday 27th September where the candidate for Elder, Nadia Clancy, put down the first bowl to officially open the 2020/21 Pennant Season. The weather was perfect and those members, family and friends that attended had a great day.
We hope you all embrace the Club by attending publicised events. Some coming up are as follows:
Saturday 24th October – Curry Night back at the Club after the game
Tuesday 3rd November – Melbourne Cup Lunch
Notices will be emailed to members and posted around the Club.
So please support our Club by attending as many events as you can. Bring along family and friends and have some fun.
As you are aware we still have Covid restrictions in place at the Club. Please make the effort to abide by these until restrictions are fully lifted. We appreciate the effort of all members who have responded to the changes both ON and OFF the greens.
Friday night draws started about a month ago. We still need more members to come along to make this a success. It’s a great atmosphere. The Jackpot is over $1,000. There is the meat raffle and also the member’s draw (you need to be there to claim it). This is a great opportunity for you to invite family and friends along and make this a regular event on your calendar.
The EBC Committee which consists of some old faces and new ones are working hard to make Edwardstown Bowling Club bigger and better. They are:
- President: Brad Parker
- Vice President: Russell Wight
- Secretary: Tony Whennan
- Treasurer: Russell Wight
- Fundraising and Events Co-ordinator: Rita Wight
- Sponsorship and Grants: Karen Bowers
- Board Member: Doug Smith
Pennants
The season starts on Wednesday 7th October, followed by Ladies competition on Thursday 8th October and Saturday 10th October. Listings are posted on the EBC Board. Also Unavailability and Going Direct forms are on the Board for all members to check and use.
Our Club will still be serving sandwiches for afternoon teas on home pennant games. We will be organising a roster of volunteers to achieve this. If you would like to be on the roster please put your name forward to a Board Member.
Training
Days for training are as usual. Tuesday and Thursday from 3.00 pm. The more members we get out for training the more success we will have on the green. So please make the effort to attend at least one of the training days.
Good luck to all players this season. Hoping you achieve all the success you deserve.
Use of Our Clubrooms
We encourage all members to use the Club as often as possible, just like a second home. Whether it be a Friday night for a few drinks, organising a Birthday party, enjoying the use of our fabulous greens or just chilling out, we would love to see more of you enjoying the Club. If you or a family member wish to use our facilities, feel free to contact Brad Parker, visit our website or email us to make a booking.
If any member wishes to contribute towards the Newsletter or add anything please speak to Rita or other members of the Board.
